Patriots score a TD on the first drive. Philly's defense didn't look too sharp

Some news and notes from last night:
- Tim Tebow (NE) went 4 for 12, 55 Yds last night. His completion percentage was 33.3%
- Geno Smith (NYJ) injures his ankle
- The Michael Vick (PHI) and Nick Foles (PHI) quarterback competition still looks pretty even
- Tom Brady (NE) can make any WR look good, not like we already knew that
- The QB battle in Minny, between Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel, will probably be decided by who sucks less

No Lions to add in the News and Notes?!?! lol JK!

Lions thoughts:

Calvin and Stafford looked to be in sync with each other.
Reggie Bush loosk to be a great addition.
The Defense had some great schemes and caught Sanchez off guard.
Defensive line looks solid!
NO INJURIES OCCURED FOR ONCE! ...knocking on wood...

However...

Oline looked a little shaky
DB's were caught out of place at times
Still questions to be asked about the injured players

I actually hate the preseason..It does nothing for me really seeing how the starters play 1-2 series...Wish they would make it a longer season, I don't see how Football is "so much hard" then any other sport.

I mean with the additions of Bush, Quin, and some of their draft picks I am excited. Only problem I see with the Lions this year is their Oline. I think with a young players it may be a tough time for Stafford. With the pick of Warford and Reif. I think that the older guys will be missed. I think Bush showed he can be a good blocker and a speedy back which we need. Stats show with Best in the lineup they went 5-0. Which brings up a question to...IS this the missing piece for the Detroit Lions???

The Lions are a good and explosive club. If the line holds and Stafford has time, Megatron is going to have another big year. Stafford struggled at times, but mostly when he wasn't throwing to big Calvin.

They scare me as a Packer fan. Bush will be an excellent addition as a speedster and receiving threat out of the backfield and should help take some pressure off of Johnson on third down.

Pre-season in the NFL is for new acquisitions, rookies and backups to get their mind around the playbook. Especially new players to the team. These guys have the shortest average careers and non guaranteed contracts, football is much harder (on the body) then every other sport. Hockey included.

I like Stafford and Megatron but that whole Lions team just can't get it all put together. Has a feel of another 6-10 season in my opinion.

I agree. The Lions need a culture change at the top. They need a full revamp from CEO down. Too many guys that have been in a losing situation for too long. They find a way to lose games. Kind of like an offensively talented Bills team. That said, it's almost like they play expecting to lose. Even in games where they are dominating, they feel like the they need to sabotage something so that they can keep expectations low. I never really fear them, as I am confident in a shootout that my Packers will make one more play. But when they win, as a non fan, you have to say.....Ya I can see them losing to the Lions, look at their parts......their parts are good. Really good in a lot of instances, but their sum is not worth more then their parts. They have too many individuals on that team.

Well with the Lions you can look at their 10-6 record and see this stat:

First 5 games: 5-0 (with Best)
Next 11: 5-6 (without Best)

Could the key factor be that "speedy back"? I mean if you are a guy that looks at stats, it shows the Lions offense is much much better with a speedster behind them. I mean in reality you look at it like this: Speedy back gives an offense options. You also take into account the best WR in the game, in Megatron, usually double covered. So you start to point out mismatches and hopefully IF, a big IF, the Oline can be sturdy enough and give Stafford protection you can see Bush, Leshoure, and Bell becoming big targets. I think that it basically is all on the Oline for the Lions. The Defense raises questions but all I can really hear about is Wow Greenwood is a freak of an athlete, yet we have yet to see him play. I was impressed with Ansah in his debut and I think Suh is the key to the Defense. Suh, Fairley, Ansah, and Jones/Young need to all step up. The secondary has gotten fairly better with the additions of Quin at safety, and Slay is moving up the depth chart.

Believe me...I hope all of what i said comes true..because I am a die hard Lions fan, but man they scare me with their schedule..I called them at 6-10 before the season starts and I hope to see 8-8 or 9-7 maybe. It will definitely be a blood bath for the division though. That's a guarantee!

Part of their problem is they are in a tough division as well. I see them looking up from the basement as I see the Vikes being a little better then last year and I believe Trestman will help Cutler a lot in Chicago as long as the rest of the team buys into his coaching. Of course the Packers are the Packers and Rodgers runs away with the division this year.
