Re: 2013 MLB Chat Thread
So here we are at almost the halfway point. Let us Recap this season shall we:
AL Standings:
AL East:
1. Boston Red Sox: 54-35
2. New York Yankees: 48-39 (5 GB)
3. Baltimore Orioles: 48-40 (5.5 GB)
4. Tampa Bay Rays: 48-40 (5.5 GB)
5. Toronto Blue Jays: 42-45 (11 GB)
AL Central:
1. Detroit Tigers: 48-38
2. Cleveland Indians: 45-42 (3.5 GB)
3. Kansas City Royals: 41-43 (6 GB)
4. Minnesota Twins: 37-47 (10 GB)
5. Chicago White Sox: 34-50 (13 GB)
AL West:
1.Oakland Athletics: 51-37
2. Texas Rangers: 50-37 (0.5 GB)
3. Los Angeles Angels: 42-45 (8.5 GB)
4. Seattle Mariners: 38-49 (12.5 GB)
5. Houston Astros: 32-56 (19 GB)
AL Recap:
Well it has been a very interesting first half with about a week left until the all star break. The Red Sox, Tigers, and A's are all in 1st place of their divisions. Yet again we see the AL West being close between 2 teams and then a huge gap with the rest of them. The AL East in my opinion looks intriguing. You have Boston in first, but the Yankees have been very injured, the Blue Jays seem to be streaking going into the break. Also you have the Orioles who have been helped by the bat of Chris Davis. I think that in the end Boston will squeak it out, Baltimore will be 2nd and Yankees 3rd. Look out Boston, Baltimore will be red hot out of the gate! AL Central is somewhat sad, and I am a Tigers fan. You have the Tigers who seem to underachieve in the regular season and do well in the playoffs. The Tigers will win the division but don't count out Cleveland for a Wild Card berth. They have been very good as of late and Kipnis shows how young guns can provide a spark to a team.
Batting Leaders:
AVG: Miguel Cabrera .360
HR: Chris Davis 33
RBI: Miguel Cabrera 88
SB: Jacoby Ellsbury 36 *Wow*
Look for Miguel Cabrera to go for a second Triple Crown!
Pitching Leaders:
Wins: Max Scherzer 13 (13-0)
ERA: Hisashi Iwakuma 2.60
SO: Yu Darvish 157
WHIP: Hisashi Iwakuma 0.88
IP: Justin Masterson 128.2
NL Standings:
NL East:
1. Atlanta Braves: 50-37
2. Washington Nationals: 45-42 (5 GB)
3. Philadelphia Phillies: 42-46 (8.5 GB)
4. New York Mets: 36-48 (12.5 GB)
5. Miami Marlins: 32-54 (17.5 GB)
NL Central:
1. Pittsburgh Pirates: 53-33
2. St Louis Cardinals: 52-34 (1 GB)
3. Cincinnati Reds: 50-37 (3.5 GB)
4. Chicago Cubs: 37-48 (15.5 GB)
5. Milwaukee Brewers: 35-51 (18 GB)
NL West:
1. Arizona Diamonbacks: 46-41
2. Colorado Rockies: 42-46 (4.5 GB)
3. Los Angeles Dodgers: 41-45 (4.5 GB)
4. San Francisco Giants: 40-46 (5.5 GB)
5. San Diego Padres: 40-48 (6.5 GB)
NL Recap:
Lookign at the divison leaders we have Arizona, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta. Out of these 3 i feel Arizona will not be there at the end of the season. You simply have a tough division where every game matters in that division. 5th place is 6.5 back which is 2 sweeps. I feel the Dodgers have the best chance to catch Arizona if they can get hot at the right times. My prediction is LA will win that division. Switch over the the Central and you have a surprise in Pittsburgh. I see them slowing down and St Louis will win it. Moving to the East it will be a close race but the Braves will hold off the Nationals and the Phillies. Surprising team would have to be Pittsburgh. They keep proving their worth in the first half of seasons but can it continue? I don't think so but give them credit, they have built a nice lead.
Batting Leaders:
AVG: Yadier Molina .346
HR: Carlos Gonzalez 24
RBI: Paul Goldschmidt 73
SB: Everth Cabrera 31 *wow*
Pitching Leaders:
Wins: Jordan Zimmerman 12
ERA: Clayton Kershaw 1.93
SO: Matt Harvey 141
WHIP: Matt Harvey 0.91
IP: Adam Wainwright 133.2
I will update every so often. Games that are being played on July 7th are not counted into these stats!
Thanks Everyone!
