He was named the Yankees best prospect last year, so at least Seattle is getting something. But yah, don't really understand this move at all. Where's Kipper :P

Genius move by Big Z. We've got enough pitching as is (Felix, Vargas, Beaven etc...], and we need hitting. Badly. In return we got one of the top young catchers in the League, in 18 games last season Montero batted .328 as a Rookie!

Win-Win trade if you ask me, now, Prince, let's talk.

I agree with you. You can never really have too much pitching, but that is why you have it. To get things you need.

I heard the Yankees were interested in Felix, and "settled" for Pineda :P

Happy to see Montero gone from the AL East. Won't grow into a Red Sox killer. :P

I'm also interested to see haow Pineda fairs in the AL East. He pitched well in the West, but the East IMO is completely different.

Yankees also signed Kuroda. I didn't want him on the Sox. Not sure why, I just didn't want him.

I really think Montero is overated. I think he's good I personally value pitching a lot. Should be interesting to say the least. I think my Braves are in a similar situation we have at least 2 or 3 guys in AAA or AA that could be 4th or 5th guys int he rotation. I hope JJ gets traded soon!

Also realized I put TO and not FOR doh!

Bryce, the reason the M's didn't trade Felix would've been fan backlash, since Hasselbeck left the Seahawks, Felix has become the man in Seattle. If Felix left, the stands would pretty well be empty and the team would be in deep trouble.

Just another thought, Zdurieck couldve done this trade knowing arbitration is comin up. Their is alot of pitching that could come available (David Price comes to mind) and a bunch of good twigs. Lets just think of what the mariners field looks like,

1B- Justin Smoak (could DH)
2B- Dustin Ackley
SS- Brenden Ryan
3B- About 5 prospects and Figgins, need someone new.
LF- Mike Carp (Also plays 1B
CF- Franklin Gutierrez
RF- Ichiro
C- Jesus Montero, John Jaso & Miguel Olivo ( could trade Miguel or John)

DH- Guys who DH'd last year include, Carp, Smoak, Pegeuro etc...

Meaning we need a DH/1B (One could be shifted into DH), 3B Who can hit!! To put a solid team on the field, or even on outfielder and put Carp/Smoak in the DH hole.

Wow this deal is honestly quite surprising. I never thought Seattle would trade away such a young pitcher with so much talent. They could always use better pitchers in Seattle. They ended up last in their division last year. In a way, Seattle made a good deal. Seattle's offense was terrible last year. They did not need another catcher but they needed better offensive players. With some more run support, their pitching staff maybe able to cope with what they have.
I collect Mark Rielly and Leafs mainly.

This stinks, Montero was my favorite Yankee prospect, now he will be an all star in Seattle instead of the Big Apple :bangshead:

Wow, I am suprised to see Pineda traded out of Seattle, however, they did get Montero for him, but I still don't really know as a blue jays fan which would be worse, the yanks with Pineda or with Montero.

Montero was behind a pretty big guy in the prime of his career. I think it is a good trade for the Yanks. They get what they need. Desperately. A young quality arm, that should hopefully build off of a solid campaign. He'll get run support this year, if he puts up similar numbers, he will have far more chance to get wins.

As a Jay fan, whatever. Do what you can. Not often you see the Yanks simply make a good old fashion trade. Good for them.
